Sales Preparation and Tagging
For simplicity, gather all of your tagging supplies along with your items to be
priced into one area. You will need:
hangers for all clothing wire are
recommended but plastic are accepted
safety pins please no straight or tiny
gold pins
plastic zipped baggies for toys with
small parts, onesies, etc.
packing or masking tape for attaching
tags to toys, books, etc.
string/ribbon/cable ties to tie shoes
together
Magic Eraser or cleaner - Magic Erasers are
truly amazing for making toys and plastic items sparkle!
Preparing & Printing Tags
All items must be entered through our inventory system. You will be able to
enter your item description, price, donation preference and discount preference.
Six tags will fit on one piece of cardstock, which you will then cut and place
on your items. You can print your tags at any time - after entering portions of
your inventory or enter all your items and then print all of them at the same
time. Just make sure you have all your items entered by
midnight Sunday, October 3. You will not be able to
access the inventory system after that date because we are setting the program
up for the sale. You will be able to print your tags up until your scheduled
drop-off time.
Do not use paper for your tags, use white/cream/light
pastel cardstock only! Paper is too easily torn from the garment
and can be lost. We cannot sell items without tags! You can get reasonably priced
cardstock at local stores such as Target, Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart and Sam's Club.
IMPORTANT PRINTING NOTE...At
our first sale using barcodes, we found that some sellers' tags would not scan.
We're recommending one critical step to hopefully fix that issue. You will get
best results printing your tags on low quality.
High quality puts so much ink on the paper it makes the little lines bleed
together and the scanner can't read them. When you print your tags you
will see an option to change print properties. Choose that and then select
low or draft quality. Less ink means $$ saved! :)
An example of the tag you will print is below:
1010 is this consignor's number (yours will automatically go there).
Price is $10.00
6 is the item number (like 6 of 200 items).
Note also the discount and donate fields (saying "yes" here will let shoppers
know that this dress will be $5 on half-price day).

Make a new tag if you made a
mistake. Do not cross out, or overwrite anything on your tag, no whiteout, no
changed prices. This is the only way that we can ensure that our inventory is
correct and that shoppers didn't tamper with your tags! (Yes, unfortunately,
that can happen). You can change your tags at any time and print a new one for
the same item, up until Sunday, April 18.
f you are not able to print tags and/or prefer to use handwritten tags, please
contact us at Elaine@pigtailsandcowlicks.com or call me at 270-302-1205.
We will work with you to convert your handwritten tags to barcoded ones.
There will be a limited number of consignors who can use handwritten tags, and
you will need to contact me as soon as possible.
Pricing
Our most common question is "How do I price my items?!" Our suggestion is to
mark it 30% of retail price; however, that is a very broad suggestion. If your
item is new, or a very nice item (such as a nice stroller, Little Tykes kitchen,
video game), then you can probably mark that higher. Every consignor marks her
items, so prices will vary. For one sale, we had 3 identical Diaper Genies with
3 different prices ranging from $3 to $10...and they all sold! The system is set
for your price to be in only $.50 increments.
Tag location
Attach card with a safety pin to the upper left front of clothes, or if you are
looking at your item pin it to your right. You can punch a hole at the top of
the tag to make it easier to slide the safety pin through. Remember all
clothing is to be hung on hangers with the top of the hanger facing left, making
a question mark shape.
Back-up tag (optional)
You can also put masking tape with your consignor number on your items. Should
the original tag get lost, we at least know whose item it is, and can possibly
re-tag it. Put the items in a visible, but not distracting, place (like on the
inside tag of clothes, or the bottom of a stroller or tricycle).
Preparing merchandise
with tags
Clothes: The better they look, the
better they sell! Please take time to wash and iron your clothes if necessary.
Please check for stains, broken zippers, torn hemlines, etc. We will be double
checking at the sale and will not accept any item that is not in excellent
condition. Using wire or wire coated hangers will allow us to hang more clothes
on our sale racks.

Hanging pants and sets:
All pants must be pinned to a hanger, not folded over, as they tend to end up on
the floor. Do not use pant hangers - the clips are not strong enough for all the
excited shoppers we have. Safety pin all sets and accessories securely together.
Pants, skirts and shorts must be pinned to the hanger. Both pieces need to be
viewable without unpinning them.

Presort:
Please arrive at your scheduled drop-off time with your clothes sorted by
gender and by size.
Toys and Baby Equipment: Fasten
tags securely to your items with clear packaging tape. Do not use scotch tape.
You can also punch a hole in the top of your tag and attach the tag securely
with a ribbon or string. Loose Items: Bibs, rattles, bows, etc. group together
appropriately in ziploc bags. Seal with clear packing tape. Pin tag to ziploc
bag. It also helps to write your consignor code on the ziploc with a Sharpee in
case the tag comes off during the sale. Please put tag on outside of bag.
Shoes: If shoes have laces, tie
them together or put a curling ribbon through the eye holes or velcro to help
keep them together. Attach your tag with ribbon or string. We had quite a few
shoes with missing tags at our last sale. When preparing shoes, think two
things. One, will these stay together with the tag on them? Second, can someone
try them on if they need to? Please do not put shoes in baggies, boxes or put
masking tape around the shoes. The easiest (and best looking) way to prepare
shoes is with ribbon or yarn securing the shoes together. Don't forget the tag!
Bedding: It is best to package a
bedding set together in its original clear plastic bag with zipper. These can
also be purchased at discount stores or large ziploc bags from The Dollar
Store.
Toys: These are our best sellers -
make them look good! Must be clean and in working order with working batteries,
where needed. Small parts should be in ziploc bags, taped closed, and attached
to the toy securely. Puzzles, books, videos and small toys should be grouped
accordingly and put in ziploc bags. Secure with clear packing tape and pin tag
to the ziploc bag. It is also good to write your consignor number and info on
the ziploc bag with a Sharpee in case the tag comes off. Puzzles should be
wrapped securely in ziploc bags to keep the pieces intact.
Large Little Tykes Toys and Furniture are in high demand! When tagging large
toys it is best to also attach a piece of masking tape to the toy with your
consignor information.
Returning Consignors
You will find when you login to
your consignor homepage that you have two types of inventory - ACTIVE and
INACTIVE. ACTIVE inventory are items that you will enter for the first
time for the Spring/Summer 2010 sale. INACTIVE inventory is any inventory
items that was entered during a previous sale.
If you wish to bring an item from a past sale to our upcoming
sale, you need to mark those INACTIVE items as ACTIVE. There is a new menu
option on the inventory menu called "Work With Inactive Inventory". This is
where you go to mark INACTIVE items as ACTIVE (meaning you plan to bring that
item to our upcoming sale). All you have to do is place a checkmark beside the
item(s) you want to make ACTIVE, and click the button. Those items are
immediately marked as active and will begin appearing on the "Work with Items"
screen, where they can be edited and have new tags printed if needed. If
there are still sold items in your INACTIVE inventory, those items cannot be
marked as ACTIVE.
We will have security monitors and will take every precaution to protect your
item; however, Pigtails and Cowlicks will not responsible for lost or stolen
items.
